Large randomised trials in adults with type 2 diabetes and in adults with obesity have reported reductions in body weight and improvements in several cardiovascular risk markers. Bryant Park contains a carousel called Le Carrousel Magique, located in the southern section of the park. The carousel was designed by Marvin Sylvor, created by the Fabricon Carousel Company, and installed in 2002. The company was selected after a carousel installation in Bryant Park was approved in 1997. The carousel has a diameter of 22 feet (6.7 m), weighs 12,000 pounds (5,400 kg), and contains 14 animal casts, of which 12 are capable of moving vertically. In keeping with the French theme of the park, it plays French music. It underwent a restoration in 2009. The carousel also has a ticket booth, measuring 7 feet (2.1 m) tall and 4 feet (1.2 m) wide, which was constructed in 1928 and was relocated from Paragon Park in Hull, Massachusetts.

=== Switching political parties === In the 2004 election, Kennedy endorsed Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry over George W. Bush. After being courted by the Republican Party for months, Kennedy declared in a letter to his constituents that he was leaving the Democratic Party and joining the Republicans, effective August 27, 2007. In his letter, he stated that he would run again for state treasurer later that year.
Hydroxychloroquine, sold under the brand name Plaquenil among others, is a medication used to prevent and treat malaria in areas where malaria remains sensitive to chloroquine. Other uses include treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and porphyria cutanea tarda. It is taken by mouth, often in the form of hydroxychloroquine sulfate. Common side effects may include vomiting, headache, blurred vision, and muscle weakness. Severe side effects may include allergic reactions, retinopathy, and irregular heart rate. Although all risk cannot be excluded, it remains a treatment for rheumatic disease during pregnancy. Hydroxychloroquine is in the antimalarial and 4-aminoquinoline families of medication. Hydroxychloroquine was approved for medical use in the United States in 1955. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines. In 2023, it was the 131st most commonly prescribed medication in the United States, with more than 4 million prescriptions. Hydroxychloroquine has been studied for an ability to prevent and treat coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), but clinical trials found it ineffective for this purpose and a possible risk of dangerous side effects. Among studies that deemed hydroxychloroquine intake to cause harmful side effects, a publication by The Lancet was retracted due to data flaws. The speculative use of hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 threatens its availability for people with established indications.
In May 2023, Lula and Rosângela travelled to the United Kingdom to attend the coronation of Charles III and Camilla and had a separate meeting with the King. Lula also met with the UK's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who announced his country was donating £80 million (BRL 500 million) to the Amazon Fund initiative, run by Brazil. During his trip, Lula called for the release of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, adding that "we talk about freedom of speech [but] the guy is in prison because he denounced wrongdoing" and "it is an embarrassment that a journalist who denounced trickery by one state against another is arrested, condemned to die in jail and we do nothing to free him. It's a crazy thing". Lula urged to create an international media movement to lobby for Assange's release.

=== Neuroanatomy === Nociceptin controls a wide range of biological functions ranging from nociception to food intake, from memory processes to cardiovascular and renal functions, from spontaneous locomotor activity to gastrointestinal motility, from anxiety to the control of neurotransmitter release at peripheral and central sites.
In 1874 Jacobus Henricus van 't Hoff and Joseph Le Bel independently proposed the tetrahedral arrangement of the atoms bound to carbon in organic molecules. Van't Hoff's theory validated and explained Pasteur's results with tartrate crystals, and Johannes Wislicenus' work with isomeric lactic acids, and was fundamental to the further development of stereochemistry. Until the use of X-rays there was no way to determine the actual crystal structure of even the simplest substances such as salt (NaCl). For example in the 1880s, William Barlow proposed several crystal structures based on close-packing of spheres some of which were validated later by X-ray crystallography; however, the available data were too scarce in the 1880s to accept his models as conclusive. In the period between the discovery of X-rays (1895) and X-ray diffraction (1912) Barlow and William Jackson Pope developed the principles of packing, and showed how to deduce the structures of some simple compounds. In the 1930s Linus Pauling was impressed that Barlow had assigned many crystal structures of metals (copper, silver, and gold to cubic close packing, and magnesium, zinc, and cadmium to hexagonal close packing) and salts (sodium, potassium and caesium chlorides) which were subsequently proved to be correct by X-ray crystallography. William Johnson Sollas emphasised the importance of different atomic sizes in constructing simple crystals, and correctly concluded that the sodium and chlorine atoms in salt would be of different sizes.

Manufacturers needed larger orders to be financially secure enough to build new factories; new orders of artillery ammunition could take 2–3 years if produced using only the current factories. The US government was considering sending AIM-120 missiles to arm the Ukrainian Air Force's MiG-29 and Su-27.

The cell absorbs water when colder and squeezes the water out as its internal temperature rises; the relative quantity of water masks or exposes the fluorescence of the nanogel.

=== Surface plasmon resonance === The SBP-Tag has been used to reversibly immobilize recombinant proteins onto streptavidin-functionalized surfaces thereby permitting interaction assessment such as by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) techniques with re-use of the functionalized surface. SPR has also been used to compare the SBP-Tag with other streptavidin-binding peptides such as Strep-tag.
China was identified as interfering with the 2024 election through propaganda and disinformation campaigns linked to its Spamouflage operation. U.S. intelligence agencies described the effort as not targeting any particular candidate but focusing on issues important to the Chinese government, such as Taiwan, and "undermining confidence in elections, voting, and the U.S. in general". As early as April 1, 2024, The New York Times reported that the Chinese government had created fake pro-Trump accounts on social media "promoting conspiracy theories, stoking domestic divisions and attacking President Biden ahead of the election in November".
In February 2020, the United States government indicted members of China's People's Liberation Army for the 2017 Equifax data breach, which involved hacking into Equifax and plundering sensitive data as part of a massive heist that also included stealing trade secrets, though the CCP denied these claims.
